‘The Dawning’ album release signals a triumph in the Sri Lankan and Singapore arts scene; in which Dawn Jay has grown from an ambitious young singer to an accomplished songwriter. The intimate live performance will comprise of Dawn Jays personal songs of love, heartbreak, perseverance and success- written in both English and Sinhalese.
With the success of his music videos ‘Time’ and ‘Last Chance’ both shot entirely in Singapore, Dawn Jay has become a mainstay in the local Singaporean scene, and has encouraged collaborations between Singapore and his home country. In addition to inviting fellow local artists The Attic Genesis as the guest opening performers of the night, Dawn Jay will take the night as a chance to promote ‘Singithi Sevana’- An orphanage for underprivileged and abused children in Sri Lanka. Being an only child raised by his father, Dawn Jay has teamed up with Singhiti Sevana and SLNUS to help raise awareness and raise funds for those in need of support of a family back home. Donation boxes will be present at the event and Dawn Jay will speak on how he has managed to overcome difficulties in his life, and how this has evolved his music.

Monkey King- Body Wither Away
June 11th, 2011Monkey King- ‘Body Wither Away’ off the debut Album ‘The Day Before The Decade’
Lyrics:
Verse 1
I got my eyes on the dream, can’t blink
I’m blind in the sea, come swim
I got my ears to my heart, pump dread
to fear of my past, so I’m deaf
I keep my nose in the greed, sniff hate
my odour is pain, whiff away
I got my teeth in the beef, eat hades
feed off the feeble, feast daily
Chorus
I got nowhere to lay
I got nowhere to go
I got faith in myself
I’m a Ronin I roam
and I been through the hells,
and came out with no help
I just pray for today,
and watch my body wither away
Verse 2
I got my foot to the pedal, run free
I’ll never ever settle, fuck this city
I got my fist to the sky-flat knuckles
live because we die-that’s hustle
I got my hands on the sword, grip firm
I stand in the war, strike first
I got my mind on the plan, more horror
my pride as a man, die with honour
Chorus
I got nowhere to lay
I got nowhere to go
I got faith in myself
I’m a Ronin I roam
and I been through the hells,
and came out with no help
I just pray for today,
and watch my body wither away

Here’s an article I came across on twitter by thejellyfarm. The author breaks it down from budget to creativity and the ‘men in suits’. I got a couple of friends in the media industry who faced the same problem. I guess we musicians ain’t that much different from the rest. Long as we’re classified under ‘local talent’, the ‘men in suits’ think they can take advantage for our need for ‘exposure’. It’s time local talents get paid! You good at that, don’t do it for free.

“Since late 2001, I have been immersed in many gigs in the Singapore TV/media industry. After 9 years busting butt on the ground, I have decided that this may the last year I want to be as involved in it and perhaps seek an alternative path.
I realise that by writing this post I may endanger the future of my career but I believe in serving the greater good if only because I still have a drive for the art of creating (whatever’s left of course) and churning out shows that entertain and are commercially viable as well, which in Singapore’s case, seems to lean towards the latter mostly.
But I digress. Let’s go back to what makes this chica more and more disillusioned about her career on a daily basis and here are the reasons why:…”
